James Davies Commissioner
James Davies is a member of the South East Wales Transport Commission.
James is an experienced businessman and also a member of the Minister for Economy and Transport’s Ministerial Advisory Board.
Born on the Gower and graduating in Mech Eng from University of Wales, Swansea, James joined Rover Group’s component plant in Llanelli (now called CalsonicKansei) in 1989. In 2006 he was appointed Head for CalsonicKansei Europe (plc). From 2011 he was appointed the first non-Japanese Corporate Officer of Calsonic Kansei Corporation, based in Europe and Japan. His last role was SVP of HE Business and Head of Global Sales ($10bn turnover) in Japan.
In April 2017, he became Executive Chair of Industry Wales, to bring the Voice of Industry to Welsh Government. Industry Wales is also the umbrella body of ESTnet, WAF and AFW. An Honorary Fellow of the University of Wales Trinity Saint David, he also previously sat on advisory bodies for Autocouncil, universities and the Board of SMMT. James is a member of the WG Ministerial Economic Advisory Board and Foundational Economy Sub Group.
James is also a Board Member, Higher Education Funding Council for Wales; Member of the Economy Strategy Board, Swansea Bay City Deal; Member of ministerial Valleys Taskforce and Member of Strategy Advice Group, Tech Valleys.
