Old Haverfordwest buildings brought back to life with Welsh Government funding

£300,000 of Town Centre Loan funding enabled the conversion of the Grade II former Pembroke House Hotel – which closed in 2010 – to create 21 town centre apartments. The Welsh Government’s £31 million Town Centre Loans Fund is helping to bring underused sites in town centres back to life. Once loans are repaid, the money is recycled to fund new loans. 

The redesign of 29 High Street provides three residential units on the upper floors and retail space on the ground floor, thanks to £71,000 of Targeted Regeneration Investment funding and £180,000 of Town Centre Loans funding.

Deputy Minister for Housing and Local Government Hannah Blythyn said:

I’m pleased to see how our funding through the Targeted Regeneration Investment programme and the Town Centre Loans scheme is breathing new life into old buildings.

We want to support our town centres to ensure they are attractive, vibrant places for people to live, work and visit.

Creating more good quality commercial and retail space will help with this, as will creating affordable homes in the centre of our towns, so people can live and work centrally and contribute to the local economy.

This investment will help to create opportunities out of empty properties and attract more people to our town centres. I look forward to seeing this development come to life with residents and businesses.
