Original consultation
We want your views on changes to Part L - the Conservation of Fuel and Power - of the Building Regulations and changes to the Approved Documents.
Consultation description
The Building Regulations control certain types of building work and ensure that buildings meet certain standards of health safety welfare convenience and sustainability.
In setting standards for building work the Building Regulations influence emission reductions in new buildings and existing buildings in Wales.
We want to improve the energy performance of buildings in Wales through the Building Regulations. This will help Wales move towards zero carbon and near zero carbon energy buildings by 2020. Our proposals set out in this consultation are a significant step towards that objective.
This consultation contains proposals for:
- Changes to Part L(Conservation of Fuel and Power) of the Building Regulations;
- Changes to the Approved Documents for Wales;
- A new template for the Approved Documents for Wales; and
- A discussion of future thinking as we move towards zero carbon.
The Approved Documents are guidance documents which set out some of the ways that the requirements in the Building Regulations can be met. The Approved Documents do not have to be followed as long as the required level of performance can be shown to be achieved in a different way.
