The Tanyard Youth Project provides open access drop-in session in Pembroke six evenings a week, giving young people a safe place to socialise. The project helps young people to raise their self confidence through engagement with the arts, in particular music.
Youth workers involved in the project provide a trusting and supportive adult relationship with the young people who have the opportunity to learn to sing, compose, record and edit sound tracks alongside other activities.
The project also helps young people with complex needs to address these issues through music therapy.
Whilst providing the young people engaged with somewhere to go, have fun, and do something they enjoy, they can also undertake accredited training to strengthen their CV’s and increase their chances of success in the local job market.
The judges felt that this project demonstrated excellence in multi-agency working which has given young people the opportunity to find their voice and nurture their creative talents in a supportive and safe place.
