Main points
- Almost a quarter (24%) of those interviewed, now consider themselves to be users of the internet – having become internet users in the period since their participation in the National Survey between 11 and 22 months previously.
- A lack of interest or need is a factor in not using the internet for a full nine in ten non-users (91%).
- ‘Soft’ constraints such a lack of skills, privacy or security concerns or a lack of help, affect three quarters (75%) of non-users.
- Over half (56%) of non-users face a ‘hard’ constraint which stops them from using the internet such as cost, health difficulties or literacy barriers.
