Welsh Government has entered into a Stage Agreement with Wolf Studios Wales to rent the entire vacant space at Pinewood Studio Wales for the next 12 months, with the option to enter into a further 2 year agreement.
Cardiff-based production company Bad Wolf will shoot the forthcoming second season of the hit Sky series A Discovery of Witches as well as their new series Industry, being made for HBO and set in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis.
Pinewood Studio Wales is a Welsh Government owned film & TV studio in Cardiff Bay, with 70,000 square feet of stages, 50,000 square feet of backlot, production office space and support units.
The deal will include improvements to the studio infrastructure which will have the following benefits:
- Make significant structural improvements to the ongoing marketability of Pinewood Studios Wales
- Improve the studio asset value
- Increase the revenue stream of the studio
- Improve the overall availability of industry standard studio space in Wales
Deputy Minister for Culture, Sport and Tourism Lord Elis-Thomas said:
“There is no doubt that our proactive, industry friendly approach is paying dividends in bringing high calibre international productions to Wales and growing a booming creative sector.
This project represents a great opportunity to secure a long term rental agreement for Pinewood, anchoring two significant productions to Wales and enhancing the studio asset.”
