The report looks at what factors were linked to whether people speak Welsh for April 2014 to March 2015.

People were more likely to both speak Welsh, and to speak Welsh more if they:

  • identified themselves as white
  • lived in Gwynedd, Anglesey, Ceredigion or Carmarthenshire
  • were aged 16 to 29
  • were more highly educated
  • identified themselves as Christian.

People were more likely to speak Welsh more if they:

  • lived in rural areas
  • had more close family and friends
  • were employed
  • owned their own home rather than renting.
