Economy and Infrastructure Secretary, Ken Skates has today reminded interested parties that draft orders for the A487 Caernarfon to Bontnewydd bypass will be exhibited this week.
The draft orders set out the land requirements and powers to construct the road, with assessments including an Environmental Statement also on show. It’s an opportunity for the documentation to be scrutinised locally and for the project team to explain the proposals.
The exhibitions will be held at:
- Celtic Royal Hotel, Caernarfon - Tuesday 20 and Wednesday 21 September 10:00 - 20:00
- Meifod Country House Hotel - Thursday 22 14:00 - 20:00 and Friday 23 September 10:00 - 14:00
The Economy Secretary said:
“This is a major project to tackle one of the area’s biggest traffic congestion hotspots. The proposed scheme will provide a new 9.70km highway commencing at the most north westerly point of the existing A487 trunk road roundabout, and terminating at the Plas Menai Roundabout.
“The planned cost of the A487 Caernarfon to Bontnewydd Bypass scheme is £91m with the start of works planned for late 2017. It will help improve journey times and safety on the A487 as well as improving the quality of life for local residents. I’d encourage anyone with an interest in the proposed road to visit the exhibition.”
Bi-lingual leaflets have been delivered in the vicinity of the scheme, providing details of exhibitions and where further information can be obtained, with notices in local papers too.
