Health Secretary Vaughan Gething has agreed funding of £4.48m this year for a new computer dispatch system for ambulances in Wales.
This was published under the 2016 to 2021 administration of the Welsh Government
This funding will enable the Welsh Ambulance Service to replace their existing computer aided dispatch system with a modern state of the art system which will further improve ambulance response times.
The new system will ensure:
- Faster response times to the highest priority immediately life threatening calls
- Improved efficiency in the identification and dispatch of the most appropriate resource
- Improved co-ordination of large-scale events, major incidents and capacity management across NHS Wales.
“In Wales we have seen real improvements in ambulance response times; it’s an area where we are leading the way in the UK. The new and improved dispatch system will help the Welsh Ambulance Service to continue to improve and to provide a service that is fit for the future.”
It will enable the Trust to provide partners with high quality and timely information and work together to improve and shape services. It will enable WAST to better monitor performance and focus improvements.
