NHS Wales is set to benefit from £16.345m investment this year in new diagnostic imaging equipment, to include new MRI, CT and cardiac scanning technology.
This was published under the 2016 to 2021 administration of the Welsh Government
Health Secretary Vaughan Gething said:
The funding includes:“Demand for diagnostic services continues to increase, and it’s vital that patients can benefit from the best possible equipment. This investment means that hospitals can replace existing scanners with cutting-edge new diagnostic and imaging technology.”
- University Hospital of Wales and University Hospital Llandough will receive new high tech Gamma camera technology with a £4.5m investment.
- Ysbyty Gwynedd is set to gain from the installation of a new MRI scanner at a cost of £1.680m;
- Nevill Hall hospital and the Royal Gwent hospital are set to benefit from £2.650m investment in replacement MRI and mammography rooms;
- Bronglais and Prince Phillip Hospital will receive £2.225m investment for a replacement MRI scanner and a new cardiac diagnostic X-ray machine;
Vaughan Gething added:
“Replacing old scanners with newer, faster and more reliable technology will help to minimise cancellations and allow more patients to undergo diagnostic tests, reducing waits and improving care.
“New advances in CT scanning mean that the latest technology is fast enough to ‘freeze’ the motion of the beating heart. Thanks to this investment, Welsh patients will soon be able to benefit from this.”
