Ann Keane
Special Recognition Award
Ann began her teaching career at a London secondary school she then moved back to Wales on her appointment to the Civil Service as Her Majesty’s Inspector (HMI) in the Wales Inspectorate of Education and Training (Estyn). During her career in Estyn, she worked as District Inspector, as Managing HMI, as Head of Inspection Directorate: Education Providers, Strategic Director and finally as Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector before retiring in 2015.
On receiving the Special Recognition award Ann said “I’m thrilled to bits because it was totally unexpected. This award is recognition of the efforts that I have tried to put into the education system in Wales over quite a long time.
Awards like these are important because people get their time in the limelight. It shines a light on the good practice and the efforts people make, and gives people a feeling that their hard work has been rewarded.”
