The Cabinet Secretary for Environment and Rural Affairs has confirmed the appointment of Kevin Roberts as Chair of Hybu Cig Cymru.
This was published under the 2016 to 2021 administration of the Welsh Government
Lesley Griffiths said:
“I am pleased Kevin has accepted my invitation to Chair the Board of Hybu Cig Cymru. There was a very strong and competitive field of candidates for the post.
“Wales’ red meat industry faces huge challenges in the years ahead as we plan for a future outside the European Union. In Kevin I know we have appointed an exceptional candidate and someone capable of navigating HCC through what will undoubtedly be some choppy waters.
“I am confident the new Board, under Kevin’s leadership has the right blend of knowledge and experience to work alongside the HCC executive in finding innovative and effective responses to the challenges that lie ahead while making the most of new possibilities to promote Wales’ iconic red meat produce.”
Kevin Roberts will now take on the role of substantive Chair after carrying it out on an interim basis following the appointment of the new HCC Board earlier this year.
The Cabinet Secretary said:
“In the short time Kevin has carried out the role on an interim basis he has proven to be a highly popular and effective Chair and I am sure this will continue in the years ahead."

Kevin is a qualified accountant who has held a number of senior positions in agriculture since leaving the private sector in 1993.
He was Director General at the Meat and Livestock Commission from 2002 until 2007 when he worked with Government to amalgamate all agricultural levy boards into a new single body called the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB). Subsequently, he became the first Chief Executive of AHDB, and then joined the NFU as Director General and held this post until 2013.
Since moving into self-employment, Kevin has held a number of non executive posts and has carried out work for the Welsh Government including the Review into the Resilience of Welsh Farming and the Review of Hybu Cig Cymru (HCC).
Kevin is currently the independent Chair of Amaeth Cymru, a member of the Cabinet Secretary for Environment and Rural Affairs’ Round Table Forum and sits on the First Minister’s European Advisory Group.
