Education Secretary Kirsty Williams has congratulated pupils who have received their results after sitting new ‘made in Wales’ maths GCSEs (Thurs 19th Jan).
This was published under the 2016 to 2021 administration of the Welsh Government
The new qualifications are part of important reforms to the education system in Wales, aimed at raising standards by placing a sharper focus on literacy and numeracy.
Two new GCSEs in mathematics and mathematics numeracy were first introduced for teaching in September 2015. The results released today are for those pupils who took the opportunity to sit the exams early in November last year.
Kirsty Williams said:
“I want to congratulate pupils receiving the results of these new made in Wales GCSE Mathematics and Mathematics-numeracy exams.
“The new qualifications are part of extensive reforms to our education system to give our young people the right skills and knowledge to thrive in the modern word.
“Our national mission is to raise standards and make sure everybody has a chance to succeed.”
The results show:
- GCSE Mathematics – the proportion achieving A* to C is 46.1%
- GCSE Mathematics Numeracy – the proportion achieving A* to C is 46.1%
