Plans to develop new performing arts and sports facilities at the Graig Campus in Llanelli have been given a £1.5m boost, Education Secretary Kirsty announced today (Thurs 15th Dec).
The funding will go towards Coleg Sir Gar’s proposals to build a new facility at the site to accommodate performing arts and sports together with a business development innovation unit.
The total project is expected to cost £3.2m and will also include incubation units for entrepreneurs to develop business ideas and improve the ability to maximise commercial activity linked to sports and the creative industries. It will also mean lower running costs.
Kirsty Williams said:
“This is an exciting project and I am delighted to announce £1.5m of Welsh Government funding to support it. When completed the new site will provide industry standard facilities for the College’s creative industries department and enable learners to progress up to a Masters level of study and offer Higher Level Apprenticeships.
“The development of high-level skills for the creative industries is important to the Welsh economy and this facility will help us develop the next generation of talent.”
The investment is part of the Welsh Government £1.4bn 21st Century Schools and Education Programme, which aims to update school and education buildings across Wales.
