Accommodation Occupancy Figures published by the Welsh Government today, show that occupancy over the summer is on par with 2015.
This was published under the 2016 to 2021 administration of the Welsh Government
Over the 12 months ending July 2016, hotel room occupancy was 67%, which is the same as for previous 12 months.
Room occupancy for guesthouses/B&Bs over the period June 2015 to July 2016, was 38%, up by 2 percentage points from the previous 12 months.
Hostel bedspace occupancy for the 12 months ending July 2016 was 49%, an increase of 1 percentage points compared with the occupancy rate for the 12 previous months.
Over the 12 months ending July 2016, self-catering unit occupancy witnessed a slight fall of 2 percentage points to 52% occupancy.
Cabinet Secretary for the Economy and Infrastructure, Ken Skates said:
“Today, is World Tourism Day which is an opportunity to celebrate the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political and economic value. Tourism in Wales is performing strongly and the industry is on track to achieve the target of 10% real growth of staying visitor earnings by 2020. This growth is supporting jobs and value added to the Welsh economy and we are now aiming to sustain these levels.
“Last week, our barometer survey showed that 84% of tourism business surveyed reported that they were busier - or as busy - as in our record breaking year in 2015. Tourism performance is based on a range of measures and it’s good to see that our accommodation occupancy survey also indicating a year on par with our recent success.”
