Main points
- 6,846 children were looked after on 31 March 2019, an increase of 439 (7%) on the previous year and a rate of 109 per 10,000 population aged under 18.
- 2,125 children started to be looked after in 2018-19, a decrease of 43 (2%) compared with the previous year.
- 1,678 children left care during the year 2018-19, a decrease of 49 (3%) compared with the previous year.
- 309 children were adopted from care in 2018-19, an increase of 3 (1%) on the previous year.
