I have today published the first ever Education Report Wales. This delivers on a commitment in Our National Mission action plan.
This set of headline indicators provide a snapshot of data and information in a transparent and open way, brought together in one place. They are not new high stakes measures.
Some of these will change over time as the process matures and the number and breadth of topics increases. As in many of the best-performing education systems in the world, robust and continuous self-evaluation provides the mechanism to identify how the Welsh education system is doing, where it is succeeding and priorities for improvement.
Last year, I asked my officials in the Education Directorate to carry out its own self-evaluation, taking on board the recommendations from the last OECD country review, which was published two years ago. They shared their findings with the Atlantic Rim Collaboratory – leaders in the field of education - who provided positive and construtive feedback.
