Main points
- The employment rate for the population aged 16 to 64 in Wales was 72.6% compared with 75.0% in the UK. In West Wales and the Valleys the rate was 71.0%, whilst the rate for East Wales was 75.2%.
- Since 2001, the employment rate increased by 5.4 percentage points in Wales and by 2.7 percentage points in the UK. In West Wales and the Valleys, the employment rate increased by 6.0 percentage points compared with a 4.4 percentage point increase for East Wales.
- The local authorities with the highest employment rates were Powys (79.4%), Wrexham (78.5%) and Monmouthshire (77.9%). The lowest rates were in Swansea (66.0%), Ceredigion (67.6%) and Neath Port Talbot (67.7%).
