Simon Stewart Member

Simon is an experienced youth worker, lecturer and leader and is currently the Dean of the Faculty of Social and Life Sciences at Wrexham Glyndwr University.

Prior to working in higher education, Simon managed a youth work charity in the voluntary sector in Northern Ireland addressing the needs of young people affected by trauma following the Omagh bombing.  Simon undertook his Master’s thesis won rural youth work and the particular needs of rural young people.

In addition, Simon worked at a National level for the Boys and Girls clubs of Northern Ireland. Simon has worked across statutory and voluntary services in England and Wales including the Greater Merseyside connexions service, St Helens Youth Service and previously led the youth work franchise for Glyndwr University across Wales.

Simon has been an external expert for the British Council youth in action programme and worked internationally, Simon is a member of Connect Cymru, supporting the youth work sector and raise awareness of international opportunities for young people. An entrepreneur at heart, Simon established and directed a successful social enterprise in the field of informal education and technology prior to joining the Wrexham Glyndwr University.

Simon is currently completing a doctorate on International Youth Work and Intercultural Learning, applying a voice centred relational method of analysis.  Having joined Wrexham Glyndwr University in 2008 Simon lead the BA and MA youth work programmes and developed a PT weekend delivery BA programme for the field of practice before moving into his current role.
