The Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics 2 (NUTS2) estimates

• Gross Value Added (GVA) per hour worked (relative to the UK) for 2016 in East Wales and West Wales and the Valleys was 86.4% and 79.5% of the UK average per hour worked respectively. Between 2015 and 2016 GVA per hour fell in both East Wales and West Wales and the Valleys by 0.1 percentage points relative to the UK average.
• GVA per filled job (relative to the UK) in East Wales and West Wales and the Valleys at 84.8% and 77.2% of the UK average respectively for 2016. Between 2015 and 2016 GVA per filled job in East Wales fell by 0.1 percentage points relative to the UK average and West Wales and the Valleys remained the same (to one decimal place.)
• Estimates published in December 2017 show that GVA per head (relative to the UK) in East Wales and West Wales and the Valleys at 87.2% and 64.1% of the UK average per head respectively in 2016. Between 2015 and 2016 GVA per head in West Wales and the Valleys increased by 0.3 percentage points relative to the UK average, whilst East Wales increased by 0.7 percentage points.

The Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics 3 (NUTS3) estimates

• Powys was the NUTS3 area with the lowest GVA per hour worked in the UK in 2016, and Gwynedd was the second lowest (at 65.1% and 71.4% of the UK average respectively). The Isle of Anglesey, Conwy and Denbighshire and South West Wales were the third, fourth, fifth lowest in the UK (at 72.2%, 72.4% and 72.5% of the UK average respectively). The Central Valleys were the highest ranked Welsh NUTS3 area (at 93.7% of the UK average).
• Powys was the NUTS3 area with the lowest GVA per job in Wales in 2016 (at 66.0% of the UK average per job). It was also the lowest in the UK. This was followed by Gwynedd, Isle of Anglesey and South West Wales which were the fourth, sixth and seventh lowest in the UK (at 70.0%, 71.2% and 71.7% of the UK average per job respectively). Flintshire and Wrexham was the highest ranked Welsh NUTS3 area (at 92.2% of the UK average).
