This dataset enables household analyses to be carried out at a local authority level for 2017.

Main points

  • In 2017, 17.5% of households in Wales were workless. This compares with 14.7% of households in the UK.
  • In 2017, Neath Port Talbot and Blaenau Gwent had the largest percentages of workless households in Wales, at 24.1% and 24.0% respectively. Monmouthshire (11.7%) had the lowest percentages of workless households.
  • In 2017, 12.6% of children in Wales lived in a workless household compared with 10.9% in the UK.
  • In 2015-17, the overall percentage of lone parent families was higher in Wales (8.2%) than in the UK (8.0%). Merthyr Tydfil (13.0%) and Neath Port Talbot (10.4%) had the highest percentages of lone parent households.
