Gareth Bale has been chosen as a Finalist in the St David Award for Sport for his role as a leading footballer and in helping Wales to its first major championship since 1958.
Gareth, from Cardiff, made his professional debut with Southampton as a 17-year old in 2006. He joined Tottenham Hotspur in 2007 before moving to Real Madrid in 2013.
He made his debut for the Wales National team in May 2006, when he became the youngest player to represent Wales at that time. Since then, he has won 50 international caps and scored 19 goals for this country. He was the top goal scorer in the recent qualifying campaign, scoring 7 goals.
Gareth is Wales’ most high profile football player and has shown devotion to his country, proudly playing for and supporting the Welsh national team, leading them to their first major tournament in almost 60 years. He has proven to be an ambassador for Wales and an inspiration for young and up and coming football players of the future.
