Eligibility criteria for NHS staff and how payments will be made.

The NHS and social care financial recognition scheme recognises the hard work and commitment of NHS and social care staff. It rewards health and social care staff for their extraordinary efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic.

All eligible staff will receive a one off non-consolidated, non pensionable £735 payment.

Staff eligible for the payment

  • directly employed NHS staff with at least one month continuous service in NHS in Wales between 17 March 2020 and 28 February 2021
  • directly employed bank workers and locums paid through NHS Payroll who have worked 4 shifts between 17 March 2020 and 28 February 2021
  • contractor staff covered by the Two Tier Agreement with the same qualifying criteria as directly employed staff
  • honorary contracted staff undertaking clinical duties with the same qualifying criteria as full-time staff

The payment will also be made to staff that would have been eligible but are currently:

  • on sick leave
  • medically excluded
  • on maternity leave
  • on shared parental leave
  • on adoption leave
