This press release was published under the 2011 - 2016 Welsh government

A new signature attraction at GreenWood Forest Park has received funding support from the Welsh Government under the Tourism Investment Support Scheme (TISS) which will see a new exciting attraction to the park open by May 2016.

The family run attraction has been open for 22 years on Sunday 24 May and this recent development signals another chapter for the attraction which has had environmental considerations at the heart of its development since opening.

The £250,000 from TISS will be used towards the development of a new ride consisting of 3 slides, 2 of which will be wave chutes approximately 60 metres long and 1 tube chute 91 metres long. The ride will consist of a 12 metre high tower with 3 glass fibre tubes.

Continuing with the  environmental and energy efficient ethos of the Park, GreenWood plan to install a 150kW photo voltaic array. The new array will not only provide carbon free power for the new ride but will also meet around 80% of  the needs of the Park for the whole year.

Deputy Minister for Culture, Sport and Tourism, Ken Skates, said:

“I’d like to congratulate GreenWood on 22 years in the business and their success is no doubt down to their drive to invest and keep the attraction fresh for new and repeat visitors.  I’m delighted that we’ve been able to invest in this future development.  I recently announced that 2016 will be Wales’ Year of Adventure, and an attraction such as GreenWood provides fantastic opportunities for families to have adventures, explore and try something new for the first time.”

An important local employer, GreenWood employs more than 100 staff during the peak season.

Stephen Bristow of GreenWood, said:

“We are very pleased that Visit Wales is supporting the development of the next exciting new ride at the Park.  The new ride, which has yet to be named, will be opening in Spring 2016.  GreenWood is the leading Family Adventure Park in North Wales, and received a record 146,000 visitors last year.  We look forward to welcoming many regular and new visitors over the coming months.”

Investment through the Tourism Investment Support Scheme has generated an additional expenditure of £13.97 million and created safeguarded 311 jobs. The funding helps the industry in Wales to improve to meet with customer expectations and demand.
