Cwrt Dref is made up of nine high quality, one and two bedroom apartments, built with £1 million of support from the Welsh Government’s innovative Housing Finance Grant.

The £120 million grant scheme will create 1,000 additional affordable homes in Wales by providing £4 million each year for 30 years to 19 Registered Social Landlords (RSLs). This funding is used to assist with the repayment of private finance to fund the creation of new affordable housing developments across Wales.

The construction of 1,000 new affordable homes will provide safe and secure accommodation, regenerate areas across Wales and create an estimated 2,500 Welsh jobs.

Speaking at Cwrt Dref, the Minister said:

"It is good to visit Cwrt Dref to see how people’s lives have benefitted thanks to our innovative Housing Finance Grant.

"These homes are another step towards our goal of providing 10,000 additional affordable homes by May 2016. We are well on track to meet this ambitious target, having already provided over 6,900 affordable homes this Assembly term.

"Statistics released last week showed a sustained increase in the number of new houses started in Wales over the past three years. During 2014-15 a total of 6,955 new homes were started, a rise of 20 per cent on the previous year and the highest annual number recorded since 2007-08.

"This increase in housebuilding is a huge boost to the Welsh construction industry and our economy as a whole by providing thousands of jobs and training opportunities. These new dwellings also provide people with good quality, safe, affordable homes, which greatly benefits their health and quality of life."
