Wales looks for further Medica and ADIPEC success as Brexit looms

The Welsh Government will lead trade delegations to two of the world’s biggest trade shows this week, as Wales looks to ensure businesses are as ready as possible for Brexit.

A total of 58  Welsh companies will take part in Medica, the leading international trade fair for the medical sector, held in Germany, and ADIPEC, the world’s largest trade show for the oil & gas sector, in Abu Dhabi.

Economy Secretary Ken Skates said:

“As we seek to navigate the challenges of Brexit, helping Welsh companies to build up the export element of their business and in turn, increase their resilience, is more important than ever.

Our commitment to supporting Welsh companies to navigate Brexit  and increase their exporting levels is clearly set out in the Welsh Government’s Economic Action Plan and just last month I announced an additional £7m of funding to support this.

Leading delegations of companies to overseas trade missions is an important part of this work, allowing them to showcase their offer to a wide and interested audience, and  build links and relationships that can transform their turnover.

Companies such as Ultrasound Technology who are  at Medica displaying their new product which assists in the measurement of blood pressure in children during renal care demonstrates both the global health benefits and  business benefits of this particular trade fair.

We know of many Welsh companies that  have increased their exports and turnover as a result of attending trade fairs with Welsh Government and  I am confident that delegates attending this year’s ADIPEC and Medica next week will achieve similar success”

Medica is described as the most prominent date for decision-makers from all sections of the international healthcare industry. This year the Welsh Government is leading a delegation of 35 companies to the event in Dusseldorf.

Meanwhile ADIPEC is the world largest trade show for the oil and gas sector. Welsh companies at the show will be attending in- market events to connect them to influencers and experts from a range of markets in the region, including UAE and Oman.

The Welsh Government is taking 23 companies to ADIPEC, with 12 exhibiting and 11 visiting the show hoping to gain contacts and business. Two of those companies, Cokebusters and Reid Lifting, both received the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the International Trade Category this year.
