IG Doors is making a considerable investment to build a new 18,000 sq. mt. state-of-the-art manufacturing facility on a 25 acre site in Oakdale with support from the Welsh Government.
Wednesday 25 November 2015

The move will safeguard around 140 jobs in the immediate future but in the long term it is expected the new site will eventually provide jobs for around 400 employees, creating new job opportunities for circa 260 people.
Work on the first of a five phased development gets underway on Oakdale Business Park today (Wednesday November 25) at a ground breaking event to mark the start of construction.
IG Doors, which is owned by the family run Hörmann Group, supplies the house building industry with an extensive range of high performance composite external doorsets in both steel and glass reinforced polymer. Their existing facility in Cwmbran will reach full capacity by next year and the option was either to move manufacturing to a plant with spare capacity in Europe - or invest in a new site in Wales.
The decision to invest in Wales has been supported by the Welsh Government with £1m business finance which helped secure the project.
Economy Minister Edwina Hart said:

“I am delighted the Welsh Government is able to support this very significant investment by the Hörmann Group. It will safeguard and create jobs as the company plans steady sustainable growth over the next five years opening up new employment and training opportunities for local people which is excellent news.”

Managing Director Mark Pulman said:

“I am really delighted to be able to make the announcement that IG Doors, through significant investment from its owners Hörmann Group is set to develop a new 25 acre site at Oakdale in Caerphilly.

The first part of the five phase project will see the building of a brand new state of the art production facility which will begin immediately. This factory will benefit from the introduction of the most technologically advanced machinery and production equipment on the market and will enable us to develop truly skilled jobs in the region at the same time as expanding our business to fully realise the potential of the markets we operate in.

It is a significant commitment from our owners and shows the confidence they have in the market here in the UK, and the belief they have in our workforce to deliver great products consistently to the highest standards.

This is a major long development for the region and one we are very excited to be a part of.  Over the coming months and years we will see the Oakdale site transform significantly as our business continues to develop and we look forward to many years of success ahead.”

The new facility will be fully automated, increasing efficiencies, reducing power and maintenance costs while increasing capacity.
The investment will create and support jobs during the construction period as well as in the local supply chain as the company has a policy of local procurement.
The Hörmann Group which is head-quartered in Steinhagen, Germany, is Europe’s leading provider of construction products including gates, doors and frames and has 35 manufacturing plants worldwide in addition to 80 distribution outlets across more than 30 countries.
The Group acquired IG Doors in 2013 to strengthen its presence in the UK.  It has produced and delivered more than 15 million doors worldwide since its foundation in 1935.
