Why you need to register

The way the Childcare Offer for Wales is administered is changing. Every setting providing childcare hours under the Childcare Offer for Wales must register with the new national digital service. If you do not register with the national digital service, you will not be able to provide and claim for Childcare Offer hours from January 2023.

Payments for Childcare Offer hours for children who start receiving Childcare Offer funded hours from January 2023 will be made through the national digital service, direct to the childcare setting.

You can register multiple settings on the digital service. You will need to register each setting individually. Once you have completed the registration process for the first setting, you will be presented with an option to register further settings.

Government Gateway

In order to register a childcare setting on the Childcare Offer for Wales national digital service, you will need to sign in using the Government Gateway. If you do not have a Government Gateway account, you will need to create an account.

Who registers the setting

One lead person should register each childcare setting. This individual should be a current member of staff with:

  • the authority and ability to receive and disseminate information on the Childcare Offer service to other staff members
  • the authority to accept the terms & conditions and privacy notices of the Childcare Offer, which set out the rules about claiming the funding
  • access to the setting’s bank account information in order to provide details later on in the process.
  • the authority and ability to approve further staff members’ requests to join the setting

Information you will need

If you are registered with CIW, you will need:

  • your setting’s CIW Registration number, which can be found on CIW online or on your CIW Registration Certificate
  • your SIN number, which can be found on CIW online and CIW correspondence.
  • the registered postcode of your setting and the local authority within which that postcode is based

Details of the setting’s bank account into which Childcare Offer payments should be made.

If you are registered in England and therefore registered with Ofsted, you will need:

  • your setting’s Ofsted Registration Number. (If you do not know your Ofsted number, please contact the Welsh local authority you usually deal with)
  • details of the setting’s bank account into which Childcare Offer payments should be made.
  • the registered postcode of your setting

CIW Registration number

You can find your CIW registration number on your registration certificate or on your CIW online account.

If it starts with a W, it will be 10 or 12 characters long and will look like one of these examples:

  • W112345678
  • W161234567
  • W15/12345678
  • W16/12345678

If your number has the forward slash character ‘/’, this must be included.

Newer CIW registration numbers are 11 characters in length and start with the letters CYM, for example: CYM00002456.

Bank account details

Payments for Childcare Offer hours will be claimed for and paid through the digital service. To be able to receive payment for Childcare Offer hours provided by the setting, you will need to enter the bank account details for the setting.

If your bank account details change, you will need to contact your LA to amend them on the national digital service.
