How you can prove that you are fully vaccinated for international travel.
The NHS COVID Pass allows you to show others that you’ve received a COVID-19 vaccine when travelling abroad.
You will still need to follow other rules when travelling, such as pre-departure testing.
You can get a digital NHS COVID Pass if:
- you were vaccinated in Wales or England
- you are aged 16 or over
If you were vaccinated outside the UK, get proof of vaccination from the country where you were vaccinated.
It is recommended that you get the digital COVID Pass rather than the paper version. You will be able to show this on your phone, tablet or laptop.
People in Wales cannot currently use the NHS app to access their NHS COVID Pass and vaccination status.
You can get your vaccination status in paper format if 2 weeks have passed since you completed a full course of the COVID-19 vaccine.
The digital NHS COVID Pass will show some test results, but not all. If your tests results are not shown, you will need to show the email or text you received with your negative COVID test result to gain entry into any trial events in England.
Get proof online
You can access your NHS COVID Pass for international travel online and download or print the Pass as a PDF document.
It is recommended you register and use this service at least 2 weeks before you are due to travel.
To access the service, you’ll need to register for an NHS login if you do not have one already.
To register for an NHS login you will need to upload a photo of your ID (passport, full UK driving licence, full European driving licence).
If you do not have photographic ID to get your NHS COVID Pass you'll need to request a letter from 0300 303 5667.
NHS login registrations may take longer than usual when there are high numbers of requests.
Your NHS COVID-19 Pass includes a 2D barcode. The expiry date does not apply to your vaccination status. Any expiry date refers only to the barcode and will update automatically.
If you download and print a copy, the expiry date will not update and you will need to print a new copy.

If your vaccination status record is incorrect, please contact your local health board.
If your personal details are wrong you will need to contact your GP.
Get proof by post
Request a paper COVID Pass only if:
- you have had a full course of the COVID-19 vaccine (the certificate is valid 2 weeks after your dose so you should wait 5 days after your final dose before requesting it)
- you are not able to either quarantine or provide tests to meet country entry requirements
- you are aged 16 or over
- you wish to receive a bilingual copy of the pass
Call 0300 303 5667 only to request a COVID Pass for essential international travel if you are unable to use the digital NHS COVID Pass or would like a bilingual certificate.
It can take up to 10 working days for a certificate to arrive. No requests can be fast tracked and certificates cannot be collected.
You can call 7 days a week between 9am and 5pm.
Calls from landlines are typically charged between 2p and 10p per minute. Calls from mobiles typically cost between 10p and 40p per minute. Calls from landlines and mobiles are included in free call packages.
If you have not been fully vaccinated
If you haven’t completed your vaccine course, please continue to follow existing entry requirements. Most countries will accept either testing or quarantine as alternatives to vaccination certification.
You need to carefully research the requirements of your destination country before travelling.

Children cannot get COVID-19 vaccination status, as they are not currently being vaccinated.
If you’re travelling abroad you may need to show proof of a COVID-19 test.
If you are registered with a GP in England
If you live in Wales but are registered with a GP in England you may need to access the NHS App system for England. We may not have access to your vaccination record.
Returning to the United Kingdom after travelling
Even if you’ve been vaccinated, you still have to follow the same requirements as non-vaccinated people when you return to the UK.
Protecting your data
Your COVID-19 post vaccination status letter that you request via the Welsh vaccine certification service centre has been produced and printed with a range of embedded security features to help prevent fraud. It includes a barcode which provides a unique reference that can be used to verify your individual COVID vaccination record.
