How to get official proof that, for medical reasons, you cannot get vaccinated and cannot take a lateral flow test.

The domestic NHS COVID Pass is currently not in operation. You can still apply for a medical exemption from COVID-19 vaccinations or lateral flow tests.

A medical exemption is not valid for international travel. There are no arrangements in place with other countries to accept people from the UK who have received a medical exemption.

If you cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons

There are a few reasons why someone cannot get vaccinated for medical reasons.

These include:

  • severe allergies to all available vaccines
  • a previous adverse reaction to a vaccine
  • learning disabilities, autism or a combination of impairments

If you feel that one of these categories apply to you, and you have not been contacted by your health board, you should:

Your health board’s learning and disability team will contact you to discuss your options.

If you have not been contacted please contact your health board’s learning and disability team directly.

If you cannot use lateral flow tests

There may be a reason why you are not able to use lateral flow tests, such as having severe nose or throat abnormalities.

Your application form will be clinically reviewed within 20 working days. You will automatically get the results of your application by post.
