The first ever Annual Report on the Armed Forces Covenant is launched today (16th May), based on a collaboration between the Welsh Government and the Armed Forces Expert Group.
The Covenant recognises that some service leavers and veterans may face challenges when they return to civilian life. This report details the progress made in Wales to deliver the targeted services and support they need.
Julie James, Minister for Housing and Local Government, said,
“I welcome this first Armed Forces Covenant Annual Report, which highlights the way positive collaboration can achieve excellent results. We’ve made good progress, but we realise there is more to do, and more we will do.”
The Deputy Minister for Housing and Local Government, Hannah Blythyn, said,
“Our Armed Forces community can face numerous personal challenges due to the nature of their work. On return to civilian life, the wealth of skills gained during their service can be an asset to prospective employers and to the communities in which they settle. We will continue to work with our public, private and charitable sector partners to provide the support they need through transition and beyond.”
Fiona Jenkins of the Armed Forces Expert Group said,
“The Expert group whole-heartedly welcomes the introduction of an Annual Report on the Armed Forces Covenant. This demonstrates the progress made, as well as identifying gaps in services for the Armed Forces Community.
“We welcome the collaborative approach between the Welsh Government and its partners, and look forward to continued success.”
