Original consultation
We are consulting jointly with the UK government on proposals to introduce a deposit return scheme (DRS) for drinks containers.
Consultation description
A DRS is where you pay more money for a drink in a bottle or can. This extra money or deposit is returned when you take the drinks container back.
A parallel consultation is taking place on the introduction of an extended packaging producer responsibility (EPR) system across the UK.
We encourage you to look at, and respond to, the EPR consultation as you consider your response to this DRS consultation.
The consultations are being led by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).
