Data on the number and value of claims made.
This is not the latest release in the series: Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme and Self-Employment Income Support Scheme statistics
HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) have published the number of claims made to the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) up to the 14 October 2021 and the Self-Employment Income Support Scheme (SEISS) for the full claims window (up to 7 October 2021).
Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme
This update provides a provisional snapshot of those that were furloughed when the CJRS ended as at the 30 September 2021 where claims were submitted to HMRC by the 14 October 2021.
- As at 30 September 2021, 39,700 employments in Wales were furloughed under the CJRS, a take up rate of 3%; similar to the take up rate across the UK (4%).
- There was a 15% decrease in the number of furloughed employments in Wales between 31 August and 30 September 2021, and the number of furloughed employments are at the lowest level since the time series began on 1 July 2020.
- Arts, entertainment and recreation had the highest take-up rate in Wales at 11%, followed by other service activities at 10%. These take-up rates are much higher than the take-up rate for Wales as a whole.
- 18,500 females and 21,200 males in Wales were furloughed under the CJRS as at 30 September 2021.
- There was little variation in the take up rate of furloughed employments across local authorities in Wales.
CJRS data includes those furloughed as at 30 September 2021 and for whom claims were submitted to HMRC by 14 October 2021. Figures for September are preliminary and are likely to be revised in the next release.
Self-Employment Income Support Scheme
These statistics set out information on the fifth grant of the SEISS which opened for claims on the 29 July 2021 and closed on 30 September 2021.
- Up to 7 October 2021, there were 45,000 successful claims for the fifth SEISS in Wales, which is 32% of those who are eligible for the scheme.
- The take up was lower than the fourth grant, and data shows a declining trend in take up from the first SEISS grant to the fifth.
- The value up to 7 October 2021 of all claims made in Wales under the fifth grant was £95 million.
- Self-employed people working in construction in Wales accounted for by far the largest share of all claims (32%).
