Examples of how to convert tables containing only text to more accessible and usable non-table alternatives.
Contents
Overview
Tables should only be used to present data, this data should usually be numeric.
There are often different approaches to converting the same table into a text-only alternative. Ideally the subject expert will complete this conversion early in the creation of content. Often converting a table means small changes to the text as well, for example:
- writing a short sub-heading as the text in table cells is too long
- adding extra text to clearly associate a sub-heading with related content
Each of the following examples includes the original table and a text alternative.
