Communities Secretary Carl Sargeant will today set out his vision for a new approach to building resilient communities and invite others to contribute to the debate.
This was published under the 2016 to 2021 administration of the Welsh Government
Speaking at a Positif Politics event in Cardiff Bay, the Cabinet Secretary will tell the audience:
“The Welsh Government is determined to deliver more and better jobs through a stronger, fairer economy. We are committed to improving and reforming public services and building a united, connected and sustainable Wales. We want to create communities that offer children the best start in life, communities that are ready and able to work and communities where the voices of local people are heard clearly when decisions are made.”
The Cabinet Secretary will be addressing the event as part of ongoing engagement on building resilient communities. He will say:
“Many of you will have concerns about the future of Communities First as I have said I am minded to phase the programme out. Communities First was launched 15 years ago, and has supported many people in some of our most deprived communities. In that time, however, our economy and society have been through huge changes.
“Any decision on Communities First will be made only after we have fully engaged with stakeholders and the public about the best way forward. Tonight’s event is an important opportunity for me to engage with you on your views. We’ve already had a good response to our #TalkCommunities questionnaire with over 230 responses in the first week but I would strongly encourage you to get involved and help us to reach as many people as possible to get their views.”
“We all need to think seriously about what we can do collectively to build stronger and more resilient communities. Communities that can thrive now and in the future.”
