The report explores the availability, affordability and satisfaction of formal childcare as well as access to Welsh language childcare.

Further analysis looks at who needs friends and family to look after their child for at least 10 hours a week, and satisfaction with the quality of formal childcare.

Main points

  • 19% of parents used formal childcare; 43% of those found it difficult to afford childcare.
  • 76% of parents used unpaid family and friends to care for their children.
