English: abandoned poll

Welsh: etholiad y rhoddwyd y gorau iddo

Part of speech

Noun, Masculine, Singular

Definition

Countermand or abandonment of poll on death of candidate. If the poll at the parliamentary election is abandoned because of a candidate's death Either abandonment or countermanding of a poll takes place if one of the candidates dies before the result is declared. If this occurs before polling day (or before polling stations open on that day), the poll is countermanded (ie it never takes place: the election has to be re-run from scratch). If a candidate dies after polling stations have opened, the poll is abandoned (ie it’s halted and, again, has to be re-run from scratch).
