What is the National Forest for Wales

The National Forest for Wales is a network of woodlands stretching across Wales. It will allow everyone in Wales to access and connect with our woodland and trees. It will:

  • create new areas of woodland
  • restore and maintain our existing woodlands
  • protect nature and address biodiversity loss
  • support our health and wellbeing
  • provide spaces for leisure and nature
  • help to capture and store carbon
  • provide timber - a sustainable resource for construction

Creating a National Forest in Wales is a long-term commitment, spanning many decades.

What are the benefits of being part of National Forest

If your site becomes part of the National Forest, you will have the support of a dedicated National Forest Liaison Officer. They can provide information about grants you could apply for. They can also help you to increase biodiversity and nature corridors on your site.

As part of the National Forest network, you will have access to a range of resources and benefits. These include:

  • online webinars
  • opportunities to share, learn and collaborate with other site managers
  • in person events
  • signage and information boards
  • professional photography and video footage
  • free promotion via Visit Wales
