Thank you for your request which I received on 12 April 2022. For the years 2019/20, 2020/21, 2021/22, you asked for the following information:              

the number of press officers directly employed by the Welsh Government and the cost of these press officers.

We do not hold historical records with this information during the period requested.

However, as of March 2022 the breakdown was as follows:

Head of News – Grade 6
6x Grade 7 (inc.1 x P/T), 
9x Senior Executive Officer (inc.1 x P/T), 
7x Higher Executive Officer (inc.1 x PT) 
1x Executive Officer

Grade pay bands:

Executive Officer: £25,860-£29,430
Higher Executive Officer: £31,210-£38,160
Senior Executive Officer: £40,100-£47,470
Grade 7: £51,380-£61,440 
Grade 6: £64,520-£75,480
