Dear
Request for Information – ATISN 15967
I wrote to you on 28 January regarding your request for information regarding the South Wales Metro proposals for the Coryton line that are being partly funded through the Welsh Government to Transport for Wales.
Information requested
You asked for:
- My understanding is that a Ministerial Decision would have been taken prior to the allocation of the funding mentioned above. My assumption is that to comply with the requirements of the Wellbeing of Future Generations Act an assessment would need to have been undertaken about the impact of that decision on the goals/ways of working. Please can you confirm whether the Welsh Government undertook such an assessment and if so please could you provide a copy.
- Please could you provide a copy of any carbon impact assessment that was undertaken when proceeding with the South Wales Metro project.
- If either of these assessments were undertaken by Transport for Wales rather than Welsh Government, please provide copies of the correspondence between Transport for Wales and Welsh Government which relate to that assessment.
Our response
I confirm we hold information caught by your request. For question 1, the Appendix 3 document to the May 2018 Cabinet Paper is appended at Annex A.
For your other two questions, I can confirm that Transport for Wales has published a Strategic Environmental Assessment of the South Wales Metro, this covers the entirety of the South Wales Metro area/project.
