Huw Irranca-Davies MS, Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Climate Change and Rural Affairs, has appointed a new Member to Eryri National Park Authority.
The newly appointed Member is Dr Lowri Cunnington Wynn, who will serve as a Member from 1 September 2024 – 31 August 2028.
For the past eight years, Lowri has worked at Aberystwyth University teaching Green Criminology, with an interest in environmental and green issues. She has published specifically on environmental and ecological justice, the impact of the climate crisis on the Welsh language and how grassroots initiatives can help build a better future.
She now works as a Senior Research Consultant for the Wavehill company, designing impact assessments, specific research projects and conducting community consultations based on a range of different topics. Lowri has recently been selected to be part of the Welsh Communities Commission for the Welsh Government, set up with the aim of developing future policies to maintain the Welsh language in those communities traditionally regarded as its strongholds. This role highlights the significant impact of community development and community capacity building, on the survival of the Welsh language.
Originally from Blaenau Ffestiniog, Lowri now lives in Llanfrothen and along with her academic background, she is passionate about working within her community. She has been involved in many local projects including looking at the impact of tourism on the post-industrial slate communities and the potential for more sustainable community tourism.
Members of the National Park Authorities are paid £5,265 per annum reflecting a time commitment of a minimum of 44 days per year.
These appointments have been made in accordance with the Governance Code on Public Appointments.
Dr Lowri Cunnington Wynn has declared she has not undertaken any political activity in the past five years. She does not currently hold any other Ministerial Appointments.
