What funding is available?

Capital grant’s are available at 2 levels:

  • small grants under £50,000
  • larger grants of up to £350,000

About the grant

The VAWDASV grant is a capital only grant scheme.

Capital projects must fit within the 6 objectives of the Welsh Government's 2022 to 2026 VAWDASV strategy.

Who can apply for the grant?

  • Third sector organisations
  • Local authorities
  • Other public bodies
  • Health boards

We will not accept applications from private sector organisations and businesses.

Required criteria

Capital grants are available for the following types of projects.

  • Purchase of property:
    • Acquisition of a sustainable asset to meet the needs of the service users, which will provide benefit for more than a 5 to 10 year term.
  • Refurbishment projects:
    • Refurbishment and adaptations to ensure services are inclusive, accessible by all and meet the needs of the population.
    • Refurbishment work to current alterative refuge space and move on provision upgrades.
    • Refurbishment work to office spaces used by service users.
  • Service improvement projects:
    • Service improvements to working with children and young people, as victims and as those who use harmful behaviour.
    • One-stop-shop services (tackling perpetration and victim support).
  • Victim safety projects 
  • Improving and upgrading service user spaces and equipment:
    • Improving access and service user areas to provide equal access.
    • Digital and IT equipment if supporting service users.

The Capital project must be completed in the 2025 to 2026 financial year. 

If you intend to apply for multiple items, e.g. accommodation, refurbishments, furniture, please ensure that you:

  • complete separate applications or
  • break down the items explicitly within your application

How to apply

Complete the application form with supporting documentation and email to CSJ.finance@gov.wales.

Applications must be sent to CSJ.finance@gov.wales and your regional co-ordinators by no later than 15 November 2024 at 11.59pm. 

We will not accept incomplete or late applications.

Assessment of bids

Welsh Government officials will assess applications:

  • Sift 1: check all information is complete (including quotations / valuations).
  • Sift 2: score projects against criteria, including alignment with the Welsh Government VAWDASV Strategic Objectives, to determine they meet the aims of the capital grant scheme.
