The Welsh Language (Wales) Measure 2011 makes Welsh an official language in Wales. This means it must be treated no less favourably than English.

The Welsh Language Commissioner has now published the Welsh Language Standards. These are a set of legally binding requirements which will apply to Welsh Government from 30 March 2016.

Compliance notice

The compliance notice issued to Welsh Ministers on 30 September 2015, sets out which standards apply to the Welsh Government. The latest version of the compliance notice is available below.

Arrangements for oversight

We will record how we are ensuring compliance with the Standards in our ‘Welsh Ministers’ Compliance with the Welsh Language Standards’ document.

We will also produce an annual report in relation to each financial year.
