The Children Wales Bill will help bring an end to the physical punishment of children in Wales.

The Senedd voted to pass the Bill on 28 January 2020. The Bill’s aim is to help protect children’s rights. It will not create a new offence, it will remove the common law defence of reasonable punishment.

Here’s why some people are supporting the Children Wales Bill.


Removing the defence of reasonable punishment is a long standing commitment and part of our national strategy, “Prosperity for All”.  We consulted in 2018 with different partners, communities and individuals.
