The Children Wales Bill will help bring an end to the physical punishment of children in Wales.
The Bill will help to protect children’s rights. If passed, it will not create a new offence, it will remove the common law defence of reasonable punishment.
The Deputy Minister for Health and Social Services announces the Bill
Removing the defence of reasonable punishment is a long standing commitment and part of our national strategy, “Prosperity for All”. We consulted in 2018 with different partners, communities and individuals.
