Llwyngwril

Aberdovey Station showing structure of new "hump" with handrail.

We have improved access from train to the platform for wheelchair and pushchair users.

Summary

Project status: completed
Funded by: Welsh Government
Delivered by: Network Rail and Arriva Trains Wales.

What we did

We built “humps” made from reinforced glass fibre. These raise the platform in places to reduce the distance between the platform and the train.

Why we are did it

In older stations it is often difficult for pushchairs and wheelchairs to get on and off trains as the stepping distance between the platform and the train is too high.

How we consulted

We piloted the project at Aberdyfi station on the Cambrian Coast. We undertook a local community consultation in partnership with the community rail partnership. The project was supported by 100% of respondents.
