The Planning Act 2008 came into force in England and Wales on 26 November 2008. However, not all of the Act applies in Wales.

The parts of the Planning Act 2008 that are relevant in Wales focus on three areas:

  • The introduction of a new consenting regime for large infrastructure projects;
  • Changes to the existing planning regime in England and Wales; and
  • The Introduction of a new Community Infrastructure Levy.

Local Planning Authorities and Chief Planning Officers were issued with guidance of the relevant parts of the Act on 2 April 2009.
