This report identifies and assesses a range of options which could be used to identify strategic planning areas which can come forward following the Planning (Wales) Act 2015.

The Minister for Natural Resources said that:

"This research by Cardiff University reinforces the important role strategic planning areas have and highlights how different objectives could have a variety of different influences on the final delineation of the boundary of the area. It illustrates how the application of different weighting to various data can influence boundaries, and that not all boundaries would necessarily follow existing administrative boundaries. I am confident this research will enable local planning authorities to consider the implications of its findings before bringing proposals forward."
