We have created a Planning Advisory and Improvement Service (PAIS) to identify and deliver best practice and raise standards across the Welsh planning system by sharing expertise and knowledge.

The PAIS is made up of the advisory group and the secretariat. The advisory group consists of experts who advise us on current issues within the planning sector and how they can be addressed. We provide the secretariat and will consider and then deliver the recommendations made by the advisory group.

Interim arrangements

The PAIS will operate on an interim basis in the first year. The group will also provide advice on how the PAIS should operate effectively in the longer term.

Members

The interim advisory group is chaired by former Chief Planning Inspector Peter Burley. The group is made up of representatives from a wide variety of planning backgrounds. The members include:

  • Peter Burley, Chair
  • Morag Ellis, QC, Francis Taylor Building
  • Simon Gale, Rhondda Cynon Taff County Borough Council
  • Hannah Parish,  Flintshire County Council
  • Chris Potts, Savills
  • Wendy Richards, The Urbanists.
