We commissioned research from ARUP to quantify infrastructure and business or commercial planning applications submitted to and determined by local planning authorities in Wales.

The review assembles and analyses evidence on the numbers of infrastructure and business or commercial planning applications determined by local planning authorities in Wales from April 2005 to October 2013.

This evidence gives an indication of likely numbers of infrastructure applications that could be determined by the Welsh Ministers under the Planning (Wales) Bill proposals for a new ‘Developments of National Significance’ planning applications procedure.

The report also gives an indication of the likely numbers of business or commercial applications that could be captured if the definition of ‘Developments of National Significance’ were to be extended to reflect the changes made to the Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects regime by the UK Government.
