From April 2018, a £6m Legacy Fund is available to eligible Local Authorities to maintain the most effective aspects of the former programme, and to support the development of resilient communities.

Effective aspects of Communities First may be identified by drawing on evidence of performance and delivery of outcomes, in conjunction with the community, Public Services Boards (PSBs) and other key partners.

The Legacy Fund requires Local Authorities to pay due regard to local well-being assessments and local well-being plans and should be developed in line with the sustainable development principles (the five ways of working) of the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015 and the Prosperity for All Strategy.
